Demystifying Glazes - Part 3: Glaze Defects & The Firing Cycle (6/14) (Online Only)
Demystifying Glazes - Part 3:
Glaze Defects: Understanding Causes & Finding Solutions
Date: Saturday, June 14th
Time: 11:30am – 1:30pm (CST)
Venue: Zoom
What to Expect:
In Part 3 of the Demystifying Glazes series, we’ll tackle one of the most common challenges potters face: glaze defects. So far, in the first two sessions, you have learned how to mix glazes, add colorants, and create test batches. Everything looks great on a small scale, but when you begin glazing larger batches or projects, defects might start to show up. Now you’re stuck wondering why things aren’t working as expected.
In this session, we’ll go over the most common glaze defects and how to troubleshoot and fix them. Whether it’s crazing, crawling, pinholing, or other issues, we’ll walk you through each one, providing solutions and tips for getting your glazes right every time.
This will be a lecture-based workshop with plenty of room for questions, where we’ll discuss:
Common glaze defects and how to identify and fix them
How to adjust your glaze recipe or application techniques
The impact of firing cycles and profiles on glaze results
We’ll also dive into different firing schedules and profiles, helping you understand how to adjust for different types of glazes and firing conditions to achieve the best results.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll feel confident in troubleshooting and refining your glazes, ensuring consistent, professional results in all your pieces!
